Enzo Le Fee wants to leave as West Ham join race to sign midfield ‘magician’

Premier League trio West Ham United, Leicester City and Fulham have reportedly joined the race for Enzo Le Fee as the Frenchman eyes a summer departure from FC Lorient.

The Ligue 1 high-flyers have lost Terem Moffi, Dango Ouattara and Armant Lauriente in recent months before bouncing back. That is the good news, then; Lorient’s ability to recover from the loss of key players standing them in good stead as the stylish Le Fee weighs up his options ahead of the upcoming transfer window. 

“It’s time for me to leave Lorient,” Le Fee tells Le Telegramme. “I will no longer extend by contract. I waited for a new deal in December but it didn’t arrive. It’s time to go.

“I hope my transfer this summer brings money to Lorient.”

Unfortunately for Les Merlus, with Le Fee’s contract expiring in 2024, there will be a limit to how much Lorient could demand for a former France U21 international who has five goals and five assists to show for his efforts this season. 

Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are keen, per 90Min.  

According to Der Westen, West Ham, Fulham and Leicester City are also in contention. Alongside a host of Bundesliga side; Bayer Leverkusen, Eintracht Frankfurt and current league leaders Borussia Dortmund among them. 

A midfield ‘magician’ who describes himself as a ‘creative, spontaneous, technical player who understands the game well’; Get France Football News last year labelled Le Fee ‘Ligue 1’s leading talent’. He is, they add, more than ready for an ‘elite’ club. 

Then again, you’d have said similar of Lucas Paqueta 12 months ago. The Brazil international has struggled for consistency since arriving at West Ham from Lyon last summer. There are serious doubts now about David Moyes’ ability to get the best out of a more technically-gifted West Ham squad.

Le Fee’s diminutive, 5ft 7ins frame and mesmerising ball control has often lead to comparisons with the likes of Thiago Alcantara, Marco Verratti and Frenkie de Jong.
