Barcelona signing Mohamed Salah has become a little more realistic after a story about the Liverpool attacker today.
According to The Mirror, Salah has been promised a transfer to Camp Nou once his Liverpool contract expires next summer.
The 29-year-old has already told the Reds’ faithful that he’ll be staying at the club beyond this summer.
But that doesn’t solve the long-term problem regarding his contract, with The Mirror adding that Barcelona’s interest is the reason why he’s stalling on signing a new deal at Anfield.
Here’s how former Liverpool left-back Jose Enrique reacted to the Barca rumour on Twitter this afternoon:
The Mirror add that this is a ‘headache’ for the Anfield outfit.
But really, it’s much more concerning than that.
If Salah really is stalling over signing a new deal on Merseyside due to Barcelona’s interest, then being ‘promised’ 2023 move to Xavi’s side isn’t going to make an extension any more likely.
In fact, it makes it far more unlikely and that’s why this is quite a scary development from a Liverpool perspective.
Miguel Delaney of The Independent also reported in recent days that the former Chelsea attacker remains interested in joining Real Madrid, adding further uncertainty back into the mix.
With Real still a player in this equation, and Barcelona a rising force, it doesn’t look good for Liverpool.
