Speaking on the Talking Transfers Podcast, Graeme Bailey has been discussing Milan Skriniar’s future and Liverpool’s interest in the Inter defender.

The 27-year-old centre-back has been the subject of so much transfer speculation as of late as he enters the final six months of his contract, and according to Bailey, the ‘irreplaceable’ defender is viewed as an attainable target by Liverpool now.

The journalist says that the Reds have in fact enquired about bringing the defender to Anfield in January – despite the fact he’s available on a free in six months’ time.

Liverpool think they can get Skriniar

Bailey shared what he knows about this situation.

“PSG are back on Skriniar’s radar and Liverpool as well. We understand that they have enquired about what a January deal would look like. Premier League clubs are now taking this seriously. They believe Skriniar is attainable, in November and December they believed he was staying at Inter, but now, Skriniar is looking at this now,” Bailey said.

Good van Dijk replacement

Signing Skriniar as soon as possible would be a wise move for Liverpool as it looks like the Reds may be without Virgil van Dijk for the foreseeable future.

Indeed, the Dutch defender went down against Brentford with a hamstring issue, and according to The Athletic, that injury is worse than first-feared.

Van Dijk, as we all know, is the Reds’ first-choice defender, and being without him will be a real blow in the coming weeks.

However, that blow would be softened by the arrival of Skriniar, and if the Merseyside club can get this deal over the line on the cheap, that would be a shrewd bit of business.

Whether or not they can convince Inter to part ways with Skriniar remains to be seen, but this is one to keep an eye on.
