Mauricio Pochettino may look to add players to his Tottenham squad in January to strengthen chances of a top-four finish.

Atletico Madrid winger Nicolas Gaitan’s agent Jose Iribarren has confirmed to Foot Mercato that he will leave the La Liga giants in January, with possible destinations being France or the Premier League.
The 29-year-old has been afforded just six La Liga appearances this season, failing to find the back of the net and it seems that Atletico are now willing to offload Mauricio Pochettino’s fellow countryman.
So, should Tottenham be interested? Yes, Gaitan has endured a difficult stay at Atletico, but his form with Benfica saw the assist machine produce almost create a goal once every two to three games – conjuring up 88 assists in 253 matches.

That kind of attacking precision and creation is what probably attracted to Tottenham to Gaitan back in January 2017, with the London Evening Standard claiming that Tottenham had made an enquiry for the 19-time Argentina international.
Spurs need a boost from somewhere in the final third, with Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Moussa Sissoko all struggling to produce their best in the Premier League – the latest result being a huge 4-1 loss to league leaders Manchester City.

Gaitan would also feel right at home in north London within Spurs squad. Tottenham boast an Argentinian manager in Pochettino, as well as first-team coach Miguel D’Agostino and three players – Juan Foyth, Erik Lamela and Paulo Gazzaniga all share the Argentine nationality.
Another positive in the eye of Tottenham would be Gaitan’s Champions League experience, where has made 50 appearances in the elite competition – scoring six goals and laying on 11.
The former Boca Juniors would rediscover his form and shine at Tottenham if Pochettino can pull a deal off. The only stumbling block could be his transfer fee, with three years remaining on his current deal.
