Chelsea have reportedly set a €40m (£33m) price tag for rumoured Newcastle United target Timo Werner, who could leave west London this summer after another disappointing season.

According to Sport1, the reigning European champions are open to selling the German international as the Blues look to identify another attacker to lead the line for Thomas Tuchel’s side, with Newcastle eyeing a move for Werner if reports are to be believed.

Sport Bild journalist Christian Falk has previously claimed that Eddie Howe’s side are keeping tabs on the 26-year-old striker, with Newcastle looking to add to their forward line next season alongside Callum Wilson.

The Magpies aren’t alone in their interest in Werner, though, with Sky Germany reporting that Borussia Dortmund are considering the former RB Leipzig star as a replacement for Erling Haaland if the Bundesliga giants fail to sign Karim Adeyemi.

With Cesc Fabregas previously tweeting that Werner looks ‘fed up’ at Chelsea, Newcastle could well make a move for the German international this summer, especially if the Blues are only demanding £33m for one of their top attackers.

Whilst the forward’s time in west London has been one to forget, Werner has the quality to reinvent himself at a new club, and with Newcastle undertaking an ambitious new project under the PIF regime, the striker could be the new star player for the Toon.

Newcastle should do all they can to sign Werner from Chelsea

Given the fee Chelsea signed Werner for in 2020, £33 is a generous price tag for the German international, and it is also a demand that Newcastle should be doing all they can to meet ahead of the summer transfer window.

Indeed, a strike partnership between Werner and Wilson could be deadly for Newcastle and one that is extremely productive. And at £33m, Howe will struggle to find a better forward in terms of quality, age and Premier League experience than the 26-year-old.
