Watford are looking to sign Aston Villa defender, Kortney Hause, this summer as they push for promotion to the Premier League ahead of the new campaign, according to a report.

The Atheltic claim that Watford, who were relegated from England’s top-flight last season, are looking for a left-footed centre-back and have targeted Hause as a possible option.

It is said Hause is expected to become available for loan ahead of the new season, after signing a new contract in January until 2025 – The Hornets want Chelsea’s Levi Colwill, but he is deemed to be out of reach.

Added with the former Wolves man, Steven Gerrard has summer signing, Diego Carlos, current captain Tyrone Mings, January capture, Calum Chambers and perhaps Villa’s best defender, Ezri Konsa as the centre-back options.

That’s a healthy amount of players for Gerrard to pick from, therefore, it’s no surprise if Hause does head for the exit door before the window slams shut on September 1.

It is said that the 27-year-old recently had surgery on his knee that went well and he is now ready to play on a consistent basis, so a move to Vicarage Road could be on the cards.

HAUSE SHOULD LEAVE THIS SUMMER

Even when Villa were in the Championship, Hause was a back-up option under Dean Smith, which continued in the Premier League and now under Gerrard.

He has still played his fair amount of games, including scoring the winning goal at Manchester United last season.

But it’s fair to say that Carlos, Mings, Chambers and Konsa are ahead of the 2019 signing, so his game time will be pretty limited ahead of the new Premier League season.

Taking a step down to the Championship, where he has won promotion before, would be the ideal move, especially to a team like Watford that are vying to get straight back up.
