England striker Ollie Watkins has revealed what Patrick Mahomes is really like after meeting him in Kansas City.

The Three Lions will be based in KC throughout the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The England players have been given plenty of free time outside of training, with many spending it on the golf course.

Watkins and goalkeeper James Trafford even met the Kansas City Chiefs’ quarterback at a nearby golf club during the World Cup.

Mahomes wanted to meet the England duo, and Watkins has now explained what happened in their unexpected link-up.

Ollie Watkins shares his verdict after meeting Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City

Patrick Mahomes is arguably the face of the NFL and undoubtedly one of the biggest names in American sports.

However, given that American football is less popular in England, Watkins was not “starstruck” while meeting Mahomes.

Still, the Aston Villa striker was pleased to meet the Chiefs QB and spoke glowingly about their 10-minute conversation.

“I met Patrick Mahomes yesterday, cool guy. Tom Brady came into the camp, so a lot of cool faces were flying around,” Watkins said.

“I think Tom Brady came to see Harry Kane. They were having a chat, and then I just briefly met him. Nice guy.

“At the golf course yesterday, Patrick Mahomes was doing a photo shoot, and he said he wanted to meet us. I was playing with [James Trafford], and we went and spoke to him for a good 10 minutes.

“I did say to him that the Dallas Stadium is my favourite, and he was just saying that he started off there. He was telling me about his journey as well.

“I’ve got a Mahomes jersey as well, so I think he’ll be happy with that. Obviously, I know who he is, but I’m not too big on the NFL, so I wasn’t starstruck or something like that.

“A lot of my mates would’ve been if they met him, but it’s nice when you meet other athletes to pick their brains and talk about how they train and live their lives.”

Mahomes’ likeable personality is one of many reasons that he has been such a successful leader for the Chiefs.

The 30-year-old acts like a normal, hard-working person and does not think he is bigger than the organisation.

It would be interesting to hear what he thought of Watkins and Trafford, as well as England’s chances at the World Cup.

Mahomes has already attended two World Cup games at Arrowhead Stadium: Argentina vs Algeria and the Netherlands vs Tunisia.
