Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have already begun preparations for the new Premier League season as Euro 2024 takes centre stage.
This is set to be Ange Postecoglou’s second season in charge of Spurs and his team’s fans crave a return to the Champions League.
The same for those at Old Trafford, with Erik ten Hag signing a new deal at Manchester United and looking to quieten critics who questioned this move.
This makes the 2024 summer transfer market even more important, with Euro 2024 and Copa America perhaps stalling transfer business at the time.
This is proven by Manchester United agreeing to sign Joshua Zirkzee, but the medical could be delayed because he is preparing for the Netherlands’ Euro 2024 semi-final showdown with England on Wednesday.
Not many English players can hold their heads up high and state that they have been performing at a high level.
But England’s quarter-final penalty shootout win over Switzerland saw fans and media alike being more positive than they have before when watching Gareth Southgate’s side.
The standout of it all was all five England players converting their penalties, with Ivan Toney scoring an incredible and calm no-look penalty.
Gabby Agbonlahor lauded the Brentford star for his impact at Euro 2024, with Jeff Stelling questioning what will happen to him this summer and whether he could move to Manchester United.
But that was rubbished, with Agbonlahor backing him to secure a transfer to Tottenham instead because it ‘makes sense’, as he told talkSPORT (09/07/24 at 7:30 am).
Ivan Toney should join Tottenham Hotspur over Manchester United
“Ivan Toney, it’s all gone quiet on the transfer front, hasn’t it?” said Stelling. “Can you imagine if he is going to get a move before the start of next season? We talked about Manchester United and having an experienced head up there. He would fit the bill, wouldn’t he?
Agonlahor responded: “100% yes, but would they now? They are looking at Zirkzee. They have got Hojlund as well. I don’t think Manchester United will.
“But Spurs are crying out for a striker. They haven’t got one. I think it makes sense going to Spurs. You could say Arsenal as well. If he continues to have the impact he has (at Euro 2024), you can see him getting a move before the season starts.”

Ivan Toney is needed by Ange Postecoglou
That focal point isn’t there and you feel Spurs’ ever-growing forward line would be elevated by the possible arrival of Toney.
Sources have told HITC about Brentford’s transfer stance on Tottenham target Toney, who has 12 months remaining on his contract.

From Brentford’s perspective, it seemed likely that Toney would leave before the Euros started and now their main star is starting to have a say.
That could increase his chances to leave because the interest would just rise, but it might also just add a few more million to his price tag.
