England bowed out the World Cup with a draw against with now winners of Group D, Costa Rica.

Ben Foster 7 – Had a very good game and looked very sturdy in between the sticks. Great save from Celso Borges’ free-kick.

Phil Jones 7 – Played terrifically at right back, not his best position but got up and down the wing well and made some excellent tackles.

Gary Cahill 6 – Not a bad game from the Chelsea man, misplaced a few passes and failed to hit the target with an easy header.

Chris Smalling 6 – Played fairly well with Cahill at the back, still didn’t look overly reliable though.

Luke Shaw 6 – Not the best of games for the Southampton full back, struggled at getting to the ball first in those clinical one-on-one battles.

James Milner 5 – Didn’t particularly add anything to the team and as a result England lacked creativity in midfield.

Jack Wilshere 5 – Showed why Jordan Henderson had been preferred all this time, failed to make an impact on the team.

Frank Lampard 6 – An average game for what was likely his last international performance. Did a few things well but didn’t really create any chances.

Ross Barkley 5 – For all his hype had a really disappointing game, still plenty of positives to take away from the World Cup and still a lot of maturing to do.

Adam Lallana 6 – Can count himself unlucky to have not started either of the two previous games. Just as he started to find his groove in this game, he was substituted.

Daniel Sturridge 5 – Really should have scored at the very least one goal tonight, unlike the Liverpool man to miss so many chances.

SUBS

Sterling 6 – Definitely had a real spark about him and looked a threat when he came on, probably England’s best player of the World Cup.

Gerrard 6 – Passed superbly and despite all the criticism and calls for retirement showed he’s still got it

Rooney 6 – Nearly scored from a clever chip, looked good when he came on, just didn’t have enough time.
