Newcastle United face Liverpool this weekend in what could be one of the most entertaining fixtures of the Premier League season to date.

The Toon are in incredible home form whilst Jurgen Klopp’s Reds will be looking to keep up the pace with Manchester City in the title race, with Liverpool still just one point off Pep Guardiola’s super squad.

Indeed, Liverpool have one of the best sides in Europe with incredible depth in almost every position, and for Newcastle, this could open up an interesting opportunity this summer for potential transfers.

The Magpies, under the PIF regime, will once again go big in the transfer window on new players, and Liverpool have multiple names on their squad who could become superstars at Newcastle. Here are four players who could make the move to Tyneside this summer.

Caoimhin Kelleher

Eddie Howe has transformed a dysfunctional Newcastle side into an oiled machine that for the first time in years look like a cohesive unit, yet a new goalkeeper would be perfect for the Magpies in the transfer window, and Liverpool talent Caoimhin Kelleher could be perfect for the job.

The Republic of Ireland international has only played a handful of games for Liverpool, though the youngster has made a massive impact when on the pitch, with Kelleher’s penalty shootout performances against Arsenal and Chelsea over the years winning the 23-year-old major plaudits.

With Newcastle’s last great goalkeeper being Ireland’s last great goalkeeper in Shay Given, it would be poetic for the Toon to sign Kelleher to carry the torch in an exciting new era for the club in a transfer that Liverpool could be open to conducting.

Joe Gomez

From one player who might leave Liverpool to one who already looks to have one foot out the door, Joe Gomez looks ready to depart Anfield after falling the fourth-choice centre-back, and Newcastle could be well-suited for the England international.

At 25, Gomez has his entire career ahead of him, and with Liverpool reportedly open to selling the former Charlton Athletic star and Newcastle looking to sign a centre-back, Gomez and the Magpies feel like a match made in heaven.

Whilst injuries have been an issue for Gomez over the years, a change of club could be what’s needed to unlock the defender’s obvious potential, and Newcastle have the funds and the ambition to give the centre-back a platform to build from.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Another Liverpool star whose career has been hampered by injuries, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has spent most of his time on Merseyside sat on the treatment table, and for Newcastle, a move to the northeast could revive the midfielder’s career which once showed so much promise.

Whilst Liverpool signed Oxlade-Chamberlain for a reported £35m in 2017, the Reds would likely be open to offloading the midfielder for a much cheaper fee, with Newcastle more than capable of matching the former Arsenal star’s wage demands.

Indeed, central midfield is a position that could do with some more added quality and variety, Oxlade-Chamberlain is more than capable of bringing that much-needed X-factor to Howe’s squad, with the former Southampton star likely open to a move to St. James Park, as well.

Takumi Minamino

Takumi Minamino was viewed by many as a bargain signing when Liverpool paid just £7.25m for the Japanese international in 2020. However, just two seasons later, and the Reds could already be looking to offload the winger, with Newcastle an option for the 27-year-old.

With the future of Allan Saint-Maximin also up in the air, Minamino could be an alternative for the Newcastle trickster should the attacker leave the club, with the Liverpool playmaker a player who could compliment Howe’s system.

A silky carrier of the ball who can be dangerous in the right positions, Minamino could work in the Newcastle attack on either flank as an assister for other players or as the main man himself, and with Liverpool seemingly open to selling the attacker, the Magpies could be an ideal next club for the former RB Salzburg star.
