In Wayne Rooney’s absence, it was Henderson who captained Gareth Southgate’s men for the clash at Wembley, and he nearly led the side to an impressive victory.
After the midfielder’s Liverpool teammate Adam Lallana had given the home team the lead from the penalty spot inside the first 10 minutes, Henderson created England’s second as his cross early in the second-half found Jamie Vardy at the back post.

And while the night would end in disappointing fashion for Southgate’s men as Spain went on to score twice in the final six minutes to earn a draw, the result and performance would have surely left plenty of England fans feeling fairly optimistic about the direction the team is going in.
Henderson received much of the praise from the fans who took to social media. Not only was his general performance, as well as the partnership he is forming alongside Eric Dier in holding midfield, leaving several supporters impressed, his leadership was also garnering plenty of praise.
