England fans made their feelings clear on the hydration break that took place during their World Cup opener against Croatia.

The Three Lions were leading 1-0 at the time after Harry Kane was able to score from the penalty spot at the second attempt after Dominik Livakovic was penalised for coming off his line too early.

As is customary, the game temporarily paused in Dallas to allow the three-minute hydration break to take place, sparking a loud chorus of boos inside the ground.

What is your honest opinion on the hydration breaks? 💧

Should it be judged on a game-by-game basis?

England fans make their feelings clear on the hydration break

Discourse about the hydration break has dominated the talking points throughout the World Cup so far.

Thomas Tuchel’s side were in the ascendancy and, as we have seen in other games, the pause in play can sometimes kill the momentum of a team.

There have been question marks over the logic of the hydration break, especially when some games have been played in air-conditioned stadiums and temperatures below 25 degrees celsius.

A spokesperson has confirmed that all games will have the break no matter what as it would be unfair to only do it for some.

Time for FIFA to use some common sense

These hydration breaks have often felt like TV advert breaks more than anything and while they serve their purpose in some stadiums, FIFA need to use common sense.

A lot of these stadiums have their roofs closed and air conditioning powered on full, making it perfectly acceptable to play in.

It is a simple fix that they could make in order to keep the quality of games high. All it needs to be is judged on a game-by-game basis. Officials and players are smart enough to know when it is appropriate. Let them decide.
