England manager Gareth Southgate has been speaking to PA reporters ahead of the World Cup qualifiers against Slovenia and Lithuania, and among the topics up for discussion was the inclusion in the Three Lions squad of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks.

“We had (the) opportunity to look at the short term or to integrate a young player who we think can be a future international,” Southgate said.

It is a succinct and honest way of putting it, and anyone who has seen the Tottenham youngster play this season will know just how talented he is.

That has been evident to Spurs fans for quite some time, and Winks’ composure on the ball and ability to spread the play will have impressed Southgate during his regular scouting trips.

If Winks impresses during England training and get a chance in the upcoming games, he could be a regular fixture alongside his Tottenham teammates Eric Dier and Dele Alli for years to come.

The question is, how do England accomodate them all and ensure they have the squad capable of pushing for World Cup glory in 2018 and beyond.
