According to AreaNapoli, Chelsea midfielder Jorginho did not want to leave the club and join Arsenal in the summer transfer window.

It has been reported by the Italian news outlet that Arsenal wanted to sign Jorginho from London and Premier League rivals Chelsea and tried until the window closed last week.

Juventus also reportedly wanted to sign the Italy international midfielder, described as ‘a highly technical footballer capable of dictating the tempo of play in possession with quick passing and movement’ and as ‘a combative player willing to put his foot in to regain possession’ on Chelsea’s official website in July 2018.

However, according to the report, despite interest from Arsenal and Juventus, Jorginho want(ed) to stay at Chelsea, and initial contacts between his agent and the Blues over a new contract could take place soon.

Sky Sports also reported earlier this month Arsenal’s interest in the 28-year-old.

No big miss for Arsenal

Jorginho is a very good and capable midfielder who can hold his own in the middle of the park and has done well for Chelsea.

However, Arsenal are unlikely to miss the Italy international, as the Gunners completed the signing of Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid on summer transfer deadline day.

Partey is a brilliant defensive midfielder who will make Arsenal better and stronger in the middle of the park and protect the Gunners’ back line.
