David Seaman has stated that Everton’s Jordan Pickford would still be his number one goalkeeper for England ahead of Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale.

The Highbury legend added that Ramsdale is ‘really pushing’ England’s number one, but he is still putting the Everton man ahead of him.

Ramsdale is currently injured and isn’t part of the current national setup that is preparing for two friendlies against the Ivory Coast and Switzerland.

If he was fit, it would have been interesting to see what Gareth Southgate would have done given Ramsdale’s form on the domestic stage.

Seaman made it clear, if Ramsdale was fit, he would have played him in England’s forthcoming matches because they are friendlies.

But Arsenal fans may not like the fact that he would still pick Pickford ahead of Ramsdale in general for the Three Lions, as he told Sky Sports.

“Maybe because it’s two friendlies he might have played,” said Seaman. “I still think Jordan is the number one because he has never let England down.

“He has a lot to do with Everton because of the situation that they are in. But, with England, he has never let them down.

“For me, it’s still Pickford. But, Aaron really is pushing. He is playing really well. He has that confidence as well and it’s a bit of arrogance as well. But it’s a nice arrogance and confidence.

“It’s not too much. He is managing it just right. It keeps him busy. It’s the perfect level he has got to keep his confidence up.”

When it comes to international football, Pickford has never put a foot wrong.

That was proven at the last World Cup, the UEFA Nations League, Euro 2020 in the summer and during international matches, in general.

For a domestic side, if you had to pick between the two, then Arsenal’s big-money summer signing would get the nod.

But the Sunderland academy product probably has too much credit in the bank for his country to get stripped of the main gloves, at this moment in time.

Although, it will still cause a huge debate amongst supporters.
