Stevens left Portsmouth for Sheffield United on Monday.
Sheffield United fans
Football fans are notoriously fickle. One day a player is the best thing since sliced bread, the next they’re a mouldy old loaf.
The way Portsmouth fans have reacted to Enda Stevens’ transfer to Sheffield United, then, is somewhat refreshing.
The left-back signed a three-year deal at Bramall Lane on Monday, after helping Pompey to the League Two title this past season.
This morning [Tuesday] Stevens took to Twitter, sending messages to fans of both teams.
And they appear to have been universally well received, with those of a Portsmouth persuasion harbouring no hard feelings about the 26-year-old’s decision to play at a higher level.
Stevens becomes Sheffield United’s third summer signing, after the Chesterfield striker Ched Evans and Hartlepool United winger Nathan Thomas.
Former Portsmouth defender Enda Stevens
The Irishman, who spent time at Aston Villa earlier in his career, played under Blades boss Chris Wilder at Northampton Town.
United romped to the League One title this past season, securing their return to the second tier after six years away.
Will the former Portsmouth man be a success at Sheffield United?
