Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after the Liverpool Echo published an ‘encouraging’ article regarding Georginio Wijnaldum’s contract situation.

Paul Gorst’s report states that the Netherlands international is settled on Merseyside.

It is also said that those close to Wijnaldum have indicated he is desperate to stay in Liverpool with his young family.

However, Gorst states there is a ‘school of thought’ that suggests the former Newcastle man would like to earn a wage representative of his senior role in the squad.

Wijnaldum is one of the four stars on Liverpool’s player committee alongside Virgil van Dijk, Jordan Henderson and James Milner.

Wijnaldum’s current terms expire in June, meaning that he is free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with another club from January.
