Chris Sutton said on BT Sport 1 (3:24pm, January 2, 2020) that Celtic will not dismiss Neil Lennon after the defeat to Rangers at Ibrox.

Celtic have suffered a 1-0 loss at the hands of Rangers away from home at Ibrox in the Old Firm derby today.

The Hoops, who played most of the second half with 10 men due to the dismissal of Nir Bitton, are now 19 points behind leaders Rangers in second place in the Scottish Premiership table.

Lennon’s side do have three games in hand, but it is going to be extremely hard for the Hoops to catch Rangers and win the Scottish Premiership title for the 10th season in a row.

Former Celtic striker Sutton does not think that the Glasgow giants will dismiss Lennon after today’s result, arguing that the performance of the Hoops was very good.

Sutton said about Lennon on BT Sport 1 (3:24pm, January 2, 2020): “How can you sack him after today’s performance? I don’t think they can.

“They should have sacked him earlier. I think that today’s performance may have encouraged the board. Is it a big decision to make?

“They had a big decision to make, they didn’t want to make it. The fact is he stayed in the job, and their form has been better.”

Stick with Neil Lennon?

Lennon is a Celtic legend, having been a huge success as a player and now as a manager.

Under Lennon, the Hoops could still make a challenge for the title. If they win their games in hand and Rangers have a bad spell, then Celtic will be right back in it.

However, the club’s board do have a decision to make. Bringing in a new manager now would allow him to understand the players and give him time to get the team ready for a title challenge next season.
