Tottenham Hotspur look set for a busy summer with Ange Postecoglou’s side hoping to make multiple key additions.

It’s not just incomings that will be vital for Tottenham Hotspur but indeed the outgoings as the club hope to battle for a Champions League spot next season.

Balancing the books will be critical for Spurs with big money names like Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher one of the club’s key targets.

Tottenham have today announced that eight players have been released this summer and it appears that one player, who was on that list, may well be in high demand this coming transfer window.

‘Outstanding’ player released

One of the names on the Lilywhites’ released list was left-back Charlie Sayers, who is just 20 years of age and will not be short of offers.

Sayers had a spell at Southend United and it seems that one former Premier League manager was once a big fan of the Englishman.

“I’ve been more than impressed by Charlie and he’s pushing Nathan Ralph and Tom Clifford for being first choice left-back already,” said Southend manager Phil Brown to the Southend Echo, back in the summer of 2021.

“He’s had a steep learning curve coming from non-league but he’s done well. He’s gone from the 18s to the 23s to the first team but it shows where we are that I couldn’t do the defensive work I wanted to yesterday because he was at college!”

The future for the English defender is now seemingly unclear but Sayers isn’t the only player to be released with high-profile names like Ryan Sessegnon, 24 and Ivan Perisic, 35, also on their way out of the club after a poor spell in North London.

Sayers’ future unclear

The Englishman joined the club’s academy back in 2021 but he has mainly been limited to under 18 and under 21 football.

Sayers will now depart Tottenham and hope for a move to the EFL to try and kickstart his career in the men’s game.

Judging by what former Hull City manager Phil Brown said of the defender back in 2021, he may not be short of offers this summer.
