Tony Cascarino believes that Liverpool could lose one key player this summer ‘really quickly’ despite Arne Slot set to take charge at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp said goodbye to Liverpool fans in an emotional Q and A with comedian John Bishop earlier this week as the German coach bids farewell to the club that he has spent the last nine years at.

With former Feyenoord manager Arne Slot coming into Merseyside, the Dutchman will be under a lot of pressure to try and replace the legacy left by the German.

Slot will be under pressure at Anfield with the future of key players at Liverpool still up in the air and one of these is right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has just 12 months remaining on his contract.

Cascarino on Trent

Speaking on talkSPORT, former Chelsea player Tony Cascarino believes that Real Madrid could swoop in for the Englishman and Liverpool have to do all they can to hang on to the influential 25-year-old.

“I think Trent is the big one for me,” Cascarino said. “Trent is in the final year of his contract, isn’t he? I think he is in his final year. I am pretty sure he is in his final year as well. I think Trent is a very important player.

“He is in his final year. He is at an age where he could easily end up in Madrid really quickly, Trent, and I would be concerned about that one. I think Slot would have to convince him to stay at Liverpool because he is such an important player.”

Alexander-Arnold’s future

HITC reported a couple of days back that Liverpool’s priority heading into the summer transfer window was to renew the contract of the right-back and they are confident he will agree to this.

Having broken through at Liverpool in 2017, it seems unlikely that Alexander-Arnold, who is the club’s vice captain, would decide to leave the club as they approach a key rebuild this summer.

Tying down a player like Alexander-Arnold would be massive for Slot if he is to be a success at Anfield and there will be hope from those at Anfield that he does commit sooner rather than later.
