The Manchester United fans and players will still be celebrating their FA Cup final glory at Wembley.

Heading into the final, many things were against Erik ten Hag, even suggestions that if he had won, then he would still be sacked.

Manchester United are now FA Cup winners, so just like Louis Van Gaal many moons ago, the powers that be at Old Trafford now have a huge call to make.

What’s interesting about the performance is that the manager has screamed and shouted all season long that his team would be in a better position if they didn’t have so many injuries.

This was one of the strongest squads that ten Hag has been able to put out this season and his team, not only beat their neighbours in a major final, but it was a deserved victory.

Many players are getting plaudits for their performances. Kobbie Mainoo scored the winning goal and as a teenager is impressing the likes of Gary Neville and David Beckham.

The return of Lisandro Martinez was huge. Raphael Varane leaves Manchester United on a high and with a trophy in hand. And Marcus Rashford put in a strong display after being left out of England’s Euro 2024 squad.

But Lee Dixon wanted to highlight the performance of a man who might have also played his last game for Manchester United – Sofyan Amrabat.

The former Arsenal right-back described the on-loan Fiorentina star as someone who is ‘not a pretty player’ and he is ’scruffy’ in his work, as he told ITV Sport.

But he thinks the 27-year-old gets the job done and he did ‘really well’ against a very strong Manchester City midfield and forward line.

Sofyan Amrabat shines for Manchester United in FA Cup final

“He’s not a pretty player, Amrabat, is he?!” said Dixon. “But he is kind of scruffy. He gets in the way and he gets his foot in.

“He has done really well in the front of that back four. He looks tired now, mind.”

Will Manchester United sign Sofyan Amrabat?

As it stands, he goes back to Florence and returns to his parent club – interestingly, they are preparing for a final of their own – the Europa Conference League.

But you just wonder if Manchester United will look to keep Amrabat on and sign him up permanently because the club needs players of his ilk.

The only issue is that nobody knows if ten Hag will still be at the club.

You feel if the Dutchman stays on, then it increases Amrabat chances of securing that permanent contract.

But if he gets booted out, as many are claiming that he will, then you can’t see the new manager coming in and having ‘sign Amrabat’ on the top of his to-do list.
