It’s fair to say that Arsenal are in for an important summer after the Gunners missed out on the Premier League title for a second season in a row.

Under Mikel Arteta, Arsenal have transformed themselves into regular title contenders and could be just one or two players away from finally getting their hands on the Premier League title.

One of the strengths of the Spaniard has been his ability to get the best out of the younger players, who have broken through, as well as astute signings for the first team.

It now seems that the Gunners could have another exciting young player on their hands, if Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney, is to be believed.

Arsenal star receives praise from Wrexham

After Ben Foster announced his retirement, following a spell at then National league side Wrexham, the Welsh side knew they had to sign a new goalkeeper and targeted Arsenal youngster Arthur Okonkwo on a season long loan. It seems as if the goalkeeper has made a big impact in League Two.

With the Welsh side promoted to League One, Okonkwo could well continue his development at the club and it seems that the co-owners of Wrexham are keen for this to happen.

“He’s a Premier League level keeper,” McElhenney said, as per GOAL, “who just happens to be young and doesn’t have a place on the Arsenal squad yet.

“It would be as if it’s 1985 and the Chicago Bulls drafted Michael Jordan and they are like ‘Well you’re a 20-year-old kid’. Then the Philadelphia 76ers were like ‘Hey, guess what Chicago? We will just take him off your hands for like two or three years and then we’ll just build him up because he can start with us and we can send him back to you’.

“Then he comes to Philly, wins like three championships and they’re like ‘Great, we’re gonna start a dynasty’ but then Chicago are like ‘____ off we’re taking him back’. That’s exactly what it is!”

Okonkwo’s impact in Wales

The Red Dragons achieved back to back promotions under manager Phil Parkinson and will be aiming for a fourth straight promotion next season with the EFL Championship the aim.

If they are to have any chance of getting promoted, the Welsh club will need to hang on to the talented 22-year-old and it seems he has made a big impact.

The English keeper starred for Wrexham, despite suffering a painful jaw injury at one stage, keeping 14 clean sheets for the Welsh outfit and conceding just 28 goals as they secured a runners-up finish and back-to-back promotions.
