Ange Postecoglou should look back on his first season at Tottenham Hotspur with a smile on his face, but knowing he has a lot of work to do.

This was never an easy task, especially given what he was handed when he first walked through the doors in the summer.

Tottenham had just finished eighth and there was no European football at the club, then they lost Harry Kane days before the season started.

How is your luck as a new manager? Despite that, Spurs made a quite devastating start and were sitting top of the Premier League table after ten matches.

But that defeat to Chelsea saw everything unravel. The defeats started sliding in and the performances were indifferent for large periods.

At one point, it looked like Spurs would secure Champions League football, but in the end, they were just too inconsistent towards the end and Aston Villa took that fourth spot.

Ray Parlour was reacting to suggestions of some wanting Ange Postecoglou sacked or the manager himself moving on.

The former Celtic boss wasn’t a happy man after that defeat to Manchester City, but Parlour made it clear that they need to ‘back him’, as he told talkSPORT (22/05/24 at 9:10 am).

The former Arsenal man even reacted to suggestions that some would like to see the return of Mauricio Pochettino – he left Chelsea after one season – but, once again, he doesn’t think it’s a wise idea.

Mauricio Pochettino to return to Tottenham Hotspur after Chelsea exit?

“You have to give Ange (time), three or four months ago everyone was saying ‘what a manager this guy is’ when he was playing some great football and every Spurs fan was going ‘this is fantastic to watch now’,” said Parlour

“Now, he has a little blip towards the end, you have to give him a chance again. No good sacking him now, is it?! Or him moving on. People are saying ‘we want Pochettino back at Spurs’.

“Well, come on! You have to give Ange a chance. Daniel Levy has to back him now and see what he can do.”

Ange Postecoglou has brought positive vibes

Spurs fans don’t exactly see eye-to-eye with Pochettino anymore because he decided to take the Chelsea job, even if he has left now.

But you could argue there hasn’t been a positive vibe or togetherness at the club since he was in the dugout.

But now Postecoglou is bringing that to the table and the club need to run with it.

It all starts with the powers that be, namely Levy, backing his manager in the transfer market and bulking up the squad.
