Chelsea are starting to change the mood around the camp.
For large parts of the campaign, Mauricio Pochettino and his players have suffered, including losing two crucial games at Wembley.
If Chelsea had won the League Cup final at Liverpool’s expense or been preparing for the FA Cup final, then the energy towards the team might have been different.
But that still shouldn’t hide away from recent results and performances, especially Chelsea’s impressive win at Nottingham Forest recently.
Whilst the London club make a late fight for sixth place ahead of their clash against Brighton on Wednesday, eyes and the attention of many will start to turn to the upcoming summer transfer window.
The powers that be at Stamford Bridge have spent over £1bn and now they need to balance the books.
That might mean selling some key players, with suggestions that Conor Gallagher could be on his way out, which hugely disappoints Paul Merson, as he told Sky Sports (11/05/24 at 1:40 pm).
Sources have told HITC that Gallagher isn’t expected to be handed a new contract at his boyhood club – his current deal expires in 2025.
Merson made it clear that Gallagher ‘gets into virtually every team’ and Chelsea would be taking ‘five steps back’ if they sell him.
The 24-year-old has been a regular starter this term, including donning the captain’s armband in recent months, with Reece James now returning from injury.
Conor Gallagher gets into every Premier League team
“If they sell Conor Gallagher, it’s five steps back,” said Merson. “I am a big Conor Gallagher fan, he gives you absolutely everything. I think he gets into virtually every team, probably Man City he doesn’t get into, any other team, I think he gets into.
“I would even go as far as to say at Arsenal you would, go and get him at Arsenal where you have got Rice, Odegaard and Gallagher. He gives you everything. He gives you energy, he gives you goals and he closes down. He is a fan’s dream. Everybody wants a trier.”

Chelsea’s summer transfer business
It has been well-documented that Chelsea have spent a lot of money, mainly on potential and a lot of young stars.
Cole Palmer has been the standout, whilst the likes of Moises Caicedo and Nicolas Jackson are starting to prove their worth.

There is still a long way to go, but these are encouraging signs for everyone associated with Chelsea and how the future is bright.
But come the summer, it will be interesting to see what type of road they go down. Will experience now come in and proven quality? Because it’s needed.
