Tottenham Hotspur kept their Champions League hopes alive when they secured a 2-1 win over Burnley on Saturday.

Ange Postecoglou watched his team fall behind once again, and for the seventh time this season, Tottenham came back to win.

There were two unlikely scores for Spurs – Pedro Porro and Micky van de Ven – to be fair, it’s probably not unlikely.

Back in April, the Champions League-chasing side beat Nottingham Forest at home, after falling behind, with Porro and van de Ven the goalscorers.

Are they the new Son Heung-min and Harry Kane?!

Joking aside, this was a much-needed win for the London club because they had lost four Premier League games on the bounce, including the north London derby.

Morale was rightfully on the floor, but now it has slightly picked up, with Tim Sherwood speaking highly of Porro’s performance and goal.

The former Tottenham boss has previously verbally battered the 24-year-old, but stated that against Burnley, he was ‘at his best’ because he was driving forward and doing his talking in the final third.

The defensive side of Porro’s game has proven to be a bit of a weakness since he joined the club, nor does Postecoglou’s expansive system help him out, in that aspect.

But Sherwood thought he was ‘dynamic’ against now-relegated Burnley, as he told Premier League Productions (11/05/24 at 5:10 pm).

Pedro Porro’s goal for Tottenham against Burnley

“This is Pedro Porro at his best driving forward,” said Sherwood. “Trying to thicken up the midfield, recognising when to go forward, very dynamic and he smashes that past Muric before he can see it.

“That is him at his best. You ask him to defend and you will see a different outcome. This is what he is good at.

“Ange Postecoglou, credit to him, he has recognised that. Him, and Udogie, who is out injured at the moment, they are very good at that. Thickening up the midfield and playing on the front foot. It’s exactly where the manager wants them.”

Tottenham in the summer transfer market

The fans would say they have been here many a time before. They show promise under a manager, the summer transfer window arrives and he probably doesn’t get what he wants.

There are a number of players, the backline for instance, including the goalkeeper, that are ready to start next season.

But depth is required, especially given that Spurs will be playing either Europa League or Champions League football next season.

Tottenham have shown on a number of occasions this season that if a few players, here and there, are absent for one reason or another, then in this unique style Postecoglou is displaying, their performances and results drop.
