HITC understands Arsenal and Newcastle United were represented at Porto’s recent clash with Estoril with Brazilian striker Evanilson the main reason for their attendance.

Arsenal picked up a point at Manchester City on Sunday as they continue their Premier League title hopes.

Both Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus joined Bukayo Saka in the Arsenal attack with Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli and Eddie Nketiah on the bench.

Mikel Arteta has attacking options at his disposal but Arsenal are running the rule over potential attacking additions this summer.

Porto striker eyed

HITC Football understands that Arsenal joined Newcastle United in watching Porto striker Evanilson against Estoril.

Evanilson has emerged as a possible striker option for a number of clubs across Europe and he is enjoying a very good season with the Portuguese giants.

Both Arsenal and Newcastle are looking at possibilities to bolster their forward line this summer and Evanilson has emerged on their radars.

HITC is told that both clubs had representation to check on Evanilson – although he and his Porto’s team-mates did not stand out as they suffered a shock 1-0 reversal.

It is also believed that Argentine midfielder Alan Varela is a player both clubs have checked on this season.

Evanilson stats

Evanilson joined Porto from Tombense in 2020 and scored four times in his first season with the club alongside playing for the Porto B side.

The Brazilian smashed 21 goals in the 2021-22 season and then 10 goals in all competitions last season.

Evanilson has been on fire this term, hitting 21 goals in all competitions and even started both Champions League knockout games against Arsenal.

The 24-year-old has been praised as a ‘fast’ striker by boss Sergio Conceicao and is now attracting interest after a strong season in Portugal.
