Harry Kane and Kieran Trippier went their separate ways after coming so close to winning a Champions League trophy at Tottenham Hotspur, but still remain close.
The fact that Tottenham Hotspur didn’t win a trophy in the Mauricio Pochettino era is still baffling.
You look through the team Tottenham were putting out and level of quality was astonishing.
Hugo Lloris, Kyle Walker, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, Danny Rose, Mousa Dembele, Eric Dier, Victor Wanyama, Christian Eriksen, Son Heung-min, Dele and Harry Kane were all turning out on a regular basis.
That was a side many elite sides would have been jealous of at the time.
By 2019, Pochettino had guided Tottenham to the Champions League final, only to lose 2-0 to Liverpool.
An early – and contentious – penalty left Tottenham reeling and with Harry Kane not fully fit, it just wasn’t meant to be for Tottenham.
That side naturally broke apart and moved on with only Son still at Tottenham from the players listed above, as even Kane moved on to Bayern Munich last summer.
Harry Kane still close with Kieran Trippier
Kane left Tottenham in search of trophies at Bayern Munich but looks set to miss out on the Bundesliga crown this season.
The next target may well be Euro 2024 for Kane with England one of the big favourites to win the competition.
Kane has been on international duty over the last week but returned to Germany amid injury fears, leaving him to rehabilitate with Bayern.
Kane did though board the team bus from St George’s Park to Wembley Stadium for Saturday’s game against Brazil.
The striker was asked who he sits with on the bus and he admitted to England’s official YouTube channel that it’s usually Kieran Trippier by his side when travelling with England.

The pair know each other well from their time together at Tottenham and have clearly kept that strong friendship over the years.
Trippier has missed this international break though, leaving Kane to try and find somebody else to sit next to for the journey to London.
“Normally the little man, Kieran Trippier, but we’ll see who replaces him today,” said Kane.
Trippier and Kane have played 122 times together and that connection formed at Tottenham is still going strong now.
Trippier was sold by Tottenham after that Champions League final defeat with the right back sealing a £20million move to Spain with Atletico Madrid.
The move to Spain allowed Trippier to do what Kane is now targeting; a league title.
Trippier won La Liga with Atletico in 2021, certainly justifying his decision to leave the Premier League for a European adventure.
Seeing Trippier have that success may well have inspired Kane to go and do the same, and their close bond will just leave Tottenham fans wondering how they didn’t combine for a trophy in North London.
