Leeds United fans are having the time of their lives after the struggles of last season which resulted in their relegation from the Premier League.

This time last season, they were heading towards having their third permanent manager in charge and they couldn’t stop shipping goal after goal.

Everything was a mess, from top to bottom, but Daniel Farke has quickly changed that around for the Yorkshire side.

With Leeds sitting top of the Championship table and a crucial final few months ahead, there is every chance they make a return to the Premier League.

And if they do, Nedum Onuoha feels they should stay away from re-signing struggling midfielder, Kalvin Phillips, as he told ESPN.

On paper, the 28-year-old has a Treble to his name after his transfer to Manchester City from Leeds in 2022, but life has been far more difficult than that.

Kalvin Phillips spent more time on Manchester City’s bench than on the field and it has continued now he is on loan at West Ham United.

But when it was suggested that the midfielder should go back to where it all started, Nedum Onuoha thinks he is still better than that.

Kalvin Phillips’ return to Leeds United?

“I am going to say no,” said Onuoha about Phillips making a return to Leeds. “Overall, I am of the mentality to never really go back.

“Even though he might have a chance to play more at Man City next year, I just don’t think going Leeds would necessarily be the best thing for him.

“He could have that home bond or that home connection, but I think he is a player who could play to a higher standard and a team than to one who would be fighting relegation next season.”

Kalvin Phillips needs to leave Manchester City

Look, unless Phillips goes on a madness, you can’t see West Ham wanting to re-sign him for next season.

The ‘all-action’ midfielder has fallen off massively since leaving his boyhood club and has even lost his England place.

Whatever happens, he needs to leave Manchester City in the summer and, if it means going back to Leeds to get that joy back into his game, then he should do it.

Of course, Leeds still have to do their own job and get promoted. But given the roll they are on, good luck trying to stop them!
