Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United beat Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at Old Trafford in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Liverpool headed into the quarter-final tie as favourites, but Manchester United got the job done in the end.

The Red Devils won 4-3 after extra time. Amad Diallo scored the winner in injury time of extra time.

The £19 million (BBC Sport) Ivory Coast international winger was subsequently sent off. He was shown a yellow card for taking his shirt off. The 21-year-old was already on a yellow card, so he was dismissed.

Liverpool legend Phil Thompson is disappointed for Diallo and feels for the youngster.

Liverpool legend Phil Thompson comments on Manchester United winger Amad Diallo

Thompson said on talkSPORT (6:14 am, March 18, 2024) about Diallo getting booked for his celebrations: “You know, I looked at the referee and I looked at his face, and as much as I was so angry, so frustrated, I was looking at the referee in the background as they were celebrating, and I went, ‘Oh no. He is going to get it’.

“I could see it in his eyes, lighting up, I am going to make it something nice, I am going to make a pretty name for myself here.

“He is a young kid, he has just scored one of the great winners in football, in the FA Cup quarter-final, and you have ruined it for the kid. As he trudged along the tunnel, I thought this is not the game.”

My View: Amad Diallo could star for Manchester United

In my opinion, Amad Diallo could be a star for Manchester United for years to come. I think that the 21-year-old winger has the potential to be a big player for Erik ten Hag’s side in the future.

Diallo is a squad player at United at the moment and has to work hard to get into the first team. But, if he scores goals like he did against Liverpool, then he will get more chances.

The Ivory Coast international winger has scored one goal in four appearances in all competitions for United this season.

Diallo was on loan at Sunderland last season. In 43 matches in all competitions, the winger scored 14 goals and gave four assists.

United will now hope to go all the way in the FA Cup and win it, as well as beat Aston Villa and/or Tottenham Hotspur to a UEFA Champions League place in the Premier League table.
