This has been a week that has probably proven why Mikel Arteta decided to change his Arsenal goalkeepers.

Over the weekend, Aaron Ramsdale would have been breathing a sigh of relief when Kai Havertz scored a late winning goal against Brentford.

His error in the first half would have made even bigger headlines had Arsenal lost that match, with his counterpart David Raya, then saving two penalties on Tuesday night to guide his team to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Whatever happens from now until the end of the campaign, Owen Hargreaves is certain that Aaron Ramsdale will leave and secure a ‘big’ move, as he told Premier League Productions (11/03/24 at 2:40 pm).

This isn’t a case of the 25-year-old doing much wrong, it’s Mikel Arteta being ruthless as he tries to push Arsenal to the next level.

When Aaron Ramsdale donned the gloves, the team were trying to get back into the Champions League.

They have done that, but now it’s about winning the big trophies, mainly the Premier League, and that comes with its casualties.

Aaron Ramsdale’s future

“I think Aaron Ramsdale will come out of this really well,” said Hargreaves.

“He will probably end up leaving Arsenal in the summer and go be a regular somewhere else. That’s how football is. Some people are a better fit for certain places.

“He did a great job for Arsenal last season. The manager decided a different way this season. I am sure if I was Aaron, I would be thinking ‘right I am going to play. I don’t want to sit on the bench at such a peak time of my career’.

“But he is a brilliant goalkeeper. David Raya is just a little different, just maybe a little bit better with his feet. I am sure Ramsdale is going to get a big job in the summer if he fancies it.”

Move across to Chelsea

Sources have told HITC Football that Chelsea are keen on landing Ramsdale’s talents in the summer as they look to replace Robert Sanchez.

Whilst the England international didn’t leave in January and continues to be a bench player for most parts.

A man of his calibre and standing isn’t going to continue that role next season, so moving across London would be an interesting one.

Yes, there is a rivalry there between Chelsea and Arsenal, but given that Ramsdale has no choice but to leave, perhaps he won’t get the stick that others would.
