Ever since Mikel Arteta stepped foot into the Arsenal dugout, he has made unpopular call after unpopular call.
You could argue, at the time, keeping the then-sacked captain Granit Xhaka at the Emirates was unpopular, including booting out Mesut Ozil and stripping Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of the captaincy.
Those ruthless calls continued into this season when he told Aaron Ramsdale he was no longer Arsenal’s number 1.
Darren Bent thinks, whilst ‘there aren’t too many things you can criticise Mikel Arteta for’, he feels the goalkeeping situation is certainly one of them, as he told Premier League Productions (11/03/24 at 2:40 pm)
Yes, Arsenal fans were jubilant with their crucial 2-1 win over Brentford at the weekend, it came with an almost-costly Aaron Ramsdale error.
Many will feel something like this was going to happen and Kai Havertz’s late winner probably made sure the headlines were written a lot differently.
Amid all of this, Darren Bent feels both keepers have become ‘nervous’ at some point during the season because of the position they have put in by their manager.
Aaron Ramsdale error
“What Arteta has done at Arsenal is superb,” said Bent. “There aren’t too many things that you can criticise him for.
“This is one instance where I would go that he has caused this problem. He has brought in David Raya, who has been fantastic, you can’t hide the fact that he has made, at one stage, both goalkeepers very nervous and Aaron Ramsdale is suffering from that badly, at the minute.
“Unfortunately, this is the position he is in. He is going to learn from that. He probably won’t be at Arsenal next season because he is too good to be sitting on somebody’s bench.”

Will Aaron Ramsdale leave Arsenal?
Bent thinks Ramsdale’s time is up and he will head for the exit door in the summer, in truth, many were left surprised that he stayed on in January.
Given that the £120k-a-week star would have had ambitions of making Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad in the summer.
You feel, his time on the bench, has probably now put him in a situation where he might not even get picked for the final 23.
That’s why he should have looked for a new home in the winter, but one thing is for sure, he needs to look in the summer because he is just too good to be a number 2.
