Rangers are a force to be reckoned with under manager Philippe Clement, and the Gers continued their impressive form in the UEFA Europa League this week.

On Thursday evening, Rangers took on Benfica away from home in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League Round of 16 tie.

Benfica are one of the biggest clubs in Portugal and regularly compete in major European competitions such as the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League.

The Portuguese giants are favourites to win the tie over two legs against Rangers, but the Scottish Premiership giants showed that they are not easy pushovers.

Rangers played out a 2-2 draw with Benfica away from home on Thursday evening.

Philippe Clement’s side took the lead twice against Benfica in Lisbon. Tom Lawrence and Dujon Sterling were the goalscorers for the Gers.

Jamie O’Hara praises Rangers result vs Benfica

Former Tottenham Hotspur player and talkSPORT pundit Jamie O’Hara has been hugely impressed by Rangers’ heroics in Portugal and has described their performance and result as “brilliant”.

O’Hara said on talkSPORT (10:17 pm, March 7, 2024): “Rangers fans, it was a brilliant result that really in the grand scheme of things, go away to Benfica, no mugs at home, to get a result, they would be really really happy.”

My View: Rangers could have a successful season

In my opinion, Rangers could have a hugely successful season this season. The Gers are going strong.

Rangers are two points clear of second-placed and defending champions Celtic, who have left go of Liel Abada, at the top of the Scottish Premiership table at the moment.

The Gers will take on Hibernian in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup this weekend. The Ibrox club have already won the Scottish League Cup.

Rangers, who wanted to sign James Penrice in the January transfer window, need to stay focused and take each game as it comes.

I believe that they could win the Scottish Premiership and the Scottish Cup this season and go far in the UEFA Europa League.
