Days before the Premier League season started, Tottenham fans were heartbroken to see Daniel Levy sell Harry Kane to Bayern Munich.

The 30-year-old departed to secure that much-needed trophy, something many thought he would be guaranteed in Munich because of their dominance in Germany.

But fast forward to the present and Harry Kane, even though he has been scoring for fun, finds his team 10 points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

Jamie Carragher defended the striker and slammed those, including Tottenham fans, for ‘ridiculing’ and ‘laughing’ at him, as he told CBS Sports on Paramount+ (05/03/24 at 7:20 pm).

The former defender stated that people at Tottenham should be ‘proud’ of Harry Kane for going on and playing for ‘one of the biggest clubs in the world’ after coming through their academy.

From an individual standpoint, it has been another ridiculous goalscoring season for the player – he has 27 goals from 24 Bundesliga matches, including six from eight in the Champions League.

Perhaps Bayern Munich’s chance of winning a trophy will be the European Cup because they progressed to the quarter-finals on Tuesday night by overcoming Lazio’s 1-0 1st leg lead, thanks to a brace from their star striker.

Amid the negative noise at Bayern, Carragher is certainly hoping that Harry Kane can get his hands on some trophies in the coming years.

Harry Kane’s search for trophies

“I do feel for him because he has been Bayern Munich’s best player,” said Carragher. “There is always this sort of criticism of him or maybe people laughing at him because he never really won a trophy at all at Tottenham.

“He goes to Bayern Munich, serial winners, and then he doesn’t win a trophy. I don’t understand the ridicule. This is a guy who is one of the top strikers in world football, certainly from an English point of view, we should be proud that one of our players has gone over to the Bundesliga, one of the biggest teams in the world and he is producing one of the best seasons we have seen from an English player playing abroad.

“People ridicule him, whether it’s Spurs fans, who should actually be proud of him that one of their players is playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world and he has come through their academy.

“Yes, they aren’t going to win a trophy, but next season, Bayern Munich, I am pretty sure, will win the league and he will finish with trophies. So, I don’t get the ridicule. He is one of the best players in the world and I love him to bits.”

Harry Kane and the Champions League

The England captain reached the final in Spurs colours in 2019, but was beaten by Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

This is now his chance to put it right. Bayern have won this tournament twice in the last decade and they can do it again.

Yes, things aren’t going well in the league, in fact, it has been beyond woeful. But Thomas Tuchel, who is set to leave at the end of the season, recently won the Champions League with Chelsea.

Added to that, he previously reached the final with PSG, so don’t rule out Bayern, at the least, making the final, which will be at Wembley, and wouldn’t it be fitting if Kane’s first trophy comes at the home of English football.
