Pat Nevin has said that opposition fans do not like Manchester United attacking midfielder Bruno Fernandes.
The former Chelsea and Everton winger made the comments about Bruno Fernandes while giving his take on a TikTok video that Fulham posted about the Manchester United playmaker, who is rated highly by his teammate Kobbie Mainoo.
United went down 2-1 to Fulham at Old Trafford in the Premier League on February 24. During the match, Fernandes went down on one occasion seemingly in pain. However, the £240,000-a-week (Spotrac) playmaker swiftly recovered.
Fulham subsequently posted a video on TikTok mocking the Portugal international playmaker. United manager Erik ten Hag responded to it by demanding an apology from the London club.
Pat Nevin on Manchester United playmaker Bruno Fernandes
Former Scotland international winger and BBC Sport pundit Pat Nevin has given his take on the controversy, and he has noted that opposition fans do not like Fernandes much, saying that the 29-year-old does seem to roll about a lot trying to get the referees to give decisions in his favour.
Nevin wrote in his BBC Football Extra newsletter (7:02 pm March 4, 2024): “Manchester United were less than impressed last week by Fulham’s meme suggesting Bruno Fernandes wasn’t as badly hurt as he initially suggested. The midfielder did appear to make a Lazarus level recovery when the referee ignored his writhing.

“Now I am slightly conflicted here. As former professional player, the idea of some smarty pants taking the mick out of players on a club’s official social media feed feels unacceptable If it was another player, or manager or ex-player pundit who has been there and done that who was having a go at Bruno, then I would be perfectly happy to let them vent their spleen.
“I am conflicted here because I see Fulham’s side in that particular incident. Let’s be honest, there is a reason why Bruno gets booed by various fan bases around the country, it is the fact that they think he is a serial offender in the gamesmanship and rolling around pretending to be slain stakes.
“But, if every club lets their social media department go on the offensive expect mayhem. Maybe that’s the direction of travel – if so I am happy I am no longer a player!”
My View: Bruno Fernandes has to live with the consequences of his actions
In my opinion, Manchester United attacking midfielder Bruno Fernandes has to live with the consequences of his actions.
Fernandes is 29 now and is at the top of his game. He is a very experienced player. I do not think that he is going to change his ways now.
What the Portuguese player has to accept is that opposition fans will boo him and jeer him if they are not happy with him.
Fernandes has made 150 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career. He has scored 47 goals and given 39 assists in those games.
