Phil Foden’s brace helped down Manchester United on Sunday at the Etihad, as the Premier League champions will now turn their attention to Liverpool.
There is the small matter of dealing with European fixtures in between for Manchester City and Liverpool, before the Anfield stage awaits the big one on Sunday.
This is going to be the final meeting on Merseyside between Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola, before the German departs the club.
Phil Foden stated that the upcoming title showdown is ‘massive’ and Anfield is a place where ‘we never seem to win a lot’, as he told Premier League Productions (03/03/24 at 5:55 pm).
The current Treble winners have won two of their past 32 meetings at Anfield, so it isn’t really a place that has served them well.
But given that it’s Liverpool leading the charge at the top, after their controversial win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday, then something has got to give sooner rather than later.
And Phil Foden will arrive on Merseyside in the form of his life, but in total respect of what challenge lies ahead of him and his trophy-winning teammates.
Manchester City’s trip to Anfield
“It’s massive,” said Foden about the Liverpool game. “It’s a stadium that we never seem to win a lot, so it’s going to be a challenge.
“It’s games we want to play in, the biggest games and the biggest occasions, so hopefully, we will be ready for it.”

Phil Foden in the form of his life
Forget about Kevin de Bruyne, who is arguably one of the greatest Premier League midfield players ever, it’s Foden who is leading the charge for his team from the middle of the park this season.
The England international has always been a top operator for his team, but now he is the main man and has scored 11 goals in the league alone.
He was the one who started Manchester City’s comeback against Manchester United by equalising with a brilliant curling effort, before working an outstanding second goal to outshine his England teammate, Marcus Rashford.
This is Foden proving to be a big-game player and someone who is going to be a problem for Liverpool at Anfield.
