Athletic Club have confirmed the signing of Alvaro Djalo – and that could pave the way for Arsenal target Nico Williams to leave the club.
The summer window is still a few months away but business is already being done.
La Liga side Athletic Club – who sit fifth in the table – have pounced to land a significant signing in the form of Braga talent Alvaro Djalo.
The Madrid-born talent was brought up in Bilbao, making him eligible to play for Athletic with their all-Basque transfer policy.
Djalo has been exceptional for Braga this season, hitting 14 goals and three assists in all competitions.
A tricky and speedy winger, Djalo is an exciting talent – and one who could replace Nico Williams in Bilbao.
Arsenal and Tottenham given Nico Williams encouragement
HITC Football understands that Athletic star Williams is still a wanted man.
Williams signed a new deal with Athletic in December but our understanding is that a release clause in the contract means that he is still likely to move on.
Arsenal, Aston Villa, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are all interested in Williams and this deal for Djalo could pave the way for his exit.
Williams – the brother of Athletic teammate Inaki Williams – is attracting huge interest after six goals and 11 assists in all competitions this season.

Hailed as ‘exceptional’ by Barcelona boss Xavi, the 21-year-old is a huge talent and Liverpool may well be viewing him as the potential heir to Mohamed Salah down the right flank.
Arsenal could seek additional competition for Bukayo Saka whilst the Spaniard’s speed will certainly appeal to Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou.
The release clause in Williams’ contract means Athletic can’t really stand in his way, but the signing of Djalo indicates that they are expecting to see Williams leave.
Athletic have moved early to get their next wing star and the battle for Williams’ signature may now heat up ahead of the summer window.
