When Christian Eriksen left Tottenham in 2020, he left a big void in the club’s creative department.
For many, many years, Tottenham have been crying out for that genius on the ball and someone who can do something out of nothing.
John Salako feels Spurs have that now with James Maddison and he is someone who has been ‘wanting this big opportunity’ of playing for a club like this, as he told Stadium Astro.
Following Leicester City’s relegation to the Championship, the London club didn’t waste any opportunity in bringing the £40 million star to the club.
This has been a player Tottenham have needed for several years, and as many have seen with his arrival, the impact he has made is incredible.
Before James Maddison’s injury, you could argue that he has been one of the best signings of the summer.
This style of play under Ange Postecoglou suits a player like James Maddison down to a tee, and going forward, you can imagine he will continue to be successful.
James Maddison at Tottenham
“I love James Maddison,” said Salako. “He has come in and he has been wanting this big opportunity. I think he is a class act. He will want to go and show that by being part of the England squad in the summer and show what he can do.
“He is like a Ross Barkley. People say Ross Barkley had that kind of talent. That mercurial talent. He could make things happen. He gets into that ten role, pick out passes, score goals and dead-ball situations. He can bring it alive, he is a special talent. He is sensational.
“That’s what Spurs need, they need those big players.”

Tottenham and Champions League football
Let’s be honest, when Harry Kane left in the summer, not many would have expected Spurs to be in their current position.
But there is every chance they can secure Champions League football at the end of the campaign, as they currently sit fifth in the league.
A big showdown against Aston Villa awaits on Sunday – Unai Emery’s men are five points ahead, but they have played a game extra.
But what also needs to be noted is that fifth spot could open up for Champions League football also, which is probably what Spurs and Villa want.
