Chelsea and Manchester City are paying close attention to Uruguay starlet Luciano Rodriguez from Liverpool Montevideo, HITC understands.

The 20-year-old currently stars for Liverpool FC in his homeland, and has just started the new season with them – although it has been expected he would leave.

Sources have told HITC Football that the City Football Group – the people behind Manchester City – and BlueCo – Chelsea’s ownership group – have both shown an interest.

Although, it is believed that both see Luciano Rodriguez starting his future away from England, if they were to land him.

Dutch champions Feyenoord tried and failed with a bid to land him, whilst MLS outfit Charlotte FC, who are managed by former Aston Villa boss Dean Smith, have held talks – but, again, no deal has been agreed.

Luciano Rodriguez came to the attention of many Premier League scouts during last year’s Under-23 World Cup when he scored the winning goal in the final as Uruguay beat Italy.

HITC also understands Nottingham Forest and Wolves have also taken a keen interest in his progress, together with clubs from Europe and Sevilla are one of those who like him.

Versatile Luciano Rodriguez

The rising star is someone who can operate on the flanks, as well as play down the middle, which he has done for Liverpool FC and his country.

From his 38 games on the domestic stage, Rodriguez has 11 goals and six assists to his name, as well as scoring the winning goal for Uruguay at the Under-23 World Cup.

Manchester City have dipped into the South American market before and signed young gems who are now thriving, Treble-winner Julian Alvarez is an example of that.

Whilst Chelsea are investing heavily in young stars in the hope that they can build a trophy-winning machine in years and years to come.
