Brentford boss Thomas Frank labelled Jarrod Bowen’s performance ’unplayable’ as the West Ham United forward hit a hat-trick in Monday’s 4-2 Premier League win.

After three successive top flight defeats by an aggregate score of 11-0, West Ham exploded out of the blocks like a team desperate to make up for past failures. The Hammersand Jarrod Bowen – had two inside the opening seven minutes, fizzing home a brilliant opener before converting a Vladimir Coufal cross just moments later.

Just past the hour, West Ham easing some of the pressure building on David Moyes with a much-needed won, Bowen had his first ever hat-trick in claret-and-blue.

Jarrod Bowen fires West Ham United past Brentford

“I feel terrible,” sighs Thomas Frank, his Brentford side on the wrong end of perhaps Bowen’s finest-ever performance in England’s top flight.

“Individually and collectively, we didn’t hit our level today. And, if you don’t have the level in this league against any team – and this is a very good West Ham team, with Bowen that was unplayable and Emerson deciding to put in the top corner – then it’s very, very difficult to win.”

Bowen may have been the obvious Man of the Match but the goal of the game belonged to Emerson Palmieri. The former Chelsea man fizzed a stunning shot into the top corner to put West Ham 4-1 up before Yoanne Wissa’s late consolation, meaning both West Ham full-backs mustered a ‘goal contribution’ on the night.

Big win for David Moyes

“Of course, it’s very disappointing,” adds Frank, who has recently been linked with the Liverpool job. “But, in every game, it’s never as bad and never as good.

“It feels very bad but, when I look at it back, I’ll find more positive and that’s what we’ll hang our hat on. And then we’ll try and adjust those negatives.”

West Ham, despite a miserable run, are still eighth and well-placed to secure a return to Europe. Brentford, meanwhile, are 16th and suddenly in a bit more danger than they were 24 hours previously after Everton’s point deduction was reduced.
