Alan Shearer watched on over the weekend as Arsenal dispatched his beloved Newcastle United 4-1 in the Premier League.
Yes, Newcastle have had their issues this season, but many expected them to put on a better showing against a Mikel Arteta side flying in the Premier League right now.
But it was far from that, with Alan Shearer hailing Arsenal’s display, including the quality shown on the ball from midfielder, Jorginho.
The 32-year-old hasn’t been a regular starter this season, but when he has stepped in, he has been outstanding for the team, as he previously showcased against Liverpool.
But Alan Shearer highlighted how Newcastle provided too much time for a player that’s ‘really, really talented’ and is ‘great on the ball’, as he told Premier League Productions (24/02/24 at 10:45 pm).
This Arsenal side might have been hit in the face by Porto in the Champions League in midweek, but they have been tearing apart anything that has come their way in the Premier League.
These aren’t just comfortable wins, but the Premier League title chasers are hitting fours, fives and sixes here, which is improving their goal difference and, as of this moment, making it the best compared to their title rivals.
Jorginho puts on another masterful display
“The pass from Jorginho that sort of summed Newcastle up,” said Shearer. “No pressure on the ball.
“When you are playing against a team who have got really, really talented players and they are great on the ball, who can pick a pass and finish you off, then you have to get tight. You have to try and get in their faces.
“But Newcastle just didn’t do that and Arsenal dominated. They were more clever than Newcastle from set-pieces, their movement was better and there are so many things you have to get right. Arsenal are brilliant at that this season, from the numbers we have seen.”

Jorginho’s experience in the Arsenal dressing room
The £110k-a-week star hasn’t won the Premier League title himself, but he still understands how to win those big trophies – Champions League and Euro 2020.
The Italy international isn’t going to be a regular starter for Arteta, but just now and again, he will drop him in to produce a performance of control and calmness.
That’s needed during these pressure situations because it was exactly that which resulted in Arsenal collapsing last season.
The difference here is that they aren’t the ones in the lead, so the pressure isn’t on them, from that sense, it’s helping them.
