Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool want to sign Archie Gray from Leeds United, and I think that the Anfield outfit would have been impressed by how he played against Leicester City at Elland Road on Friday evening.

Liverpool want to sign Archie Gray from Leeds United

As HITC revealed earlier this month, Liverpool wanted to sign Archie Gray from Leeds United in the January transfer window and remain keen on bringing him to Anfield in the summer of 2024.

Newcastle United and Manchester City are also keen on Gray and are keeping tabs on the Leeds youngster, who is a midfielder by trade but has been playing at right-back under head coach Daniel Farke this season.

Gray, who is rated highly by David James, was in action for Leeds against Leicester City at Elland Road in the Championship on Friday evening.

Leeds won the match 3-1, and Gray played a big role. The 17-year-old started at right-back and scored a crucial goal in the 83rd minute.

It was 1-1 at that stage, so Gray’s goal swung the game in Leeds’s way. The teenager’s deflected strike beat Mads Hermansen at his near post.

Praise for Archie Gray

As you can see below, the local media was impressed with the England Under-20 international, which highlights just the kind of player Liverpool would get if they were able to sign him in the summer transfer window.

LeedsLive gave Gray 7 out of 10 and noted: “Wasn’t pulled to pieces for the duration of the evening, but given a very tough examination by Mavididi. Did have a decent pocket of influence in the first half. Came up trumps with a heavily-deflected first goal of the season at the best possible time.”

The Yorkshire Evening Post marked Gray 7 out of 10 and said: “A few bits of nice football in the first half but he came under big pressure in the second half. The impact he made at left-back late on was crucial. Even if it goes down as an own goal, he made it happen.”

Gray has made 30 starts and two substitute appearances in the Championship for Leeds this season. He has scored one goal and given two assists in those games.

The teenager has also made one start and one substitute appearance in the FA Cup and has played twice in the Carabao Cup for Daniel Farke’s side this campaign.
