Aaron Ramsdale is ready to quit Arsenal this summer as he has no intention of spending another season sitting behind David Raya, HITC understands.

Ramsdale started the season as the first-choice goalkeeper for Arsenal, but he soon lost his place to David Raya, who joined the Gunners from London and Premier League rivals Brentford in the summer of 2023.

Aaron Ramsdale wants to leave Arsenal

Raya moved to Arsenal on a loan deal, but it is expected that the Spain international goalkeeper will make the move permanent in the summer of 2024.

When Arsenal signed Raya, manager Mikel Arteta said that he wanted two number one goalkeepers to fight for a place in the starting lineup.

However, it soon became apparent that Ramsdale was the second choice. Former Arsenal star and Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson feels for him.

HITC understands that the 25-year-old was willing to battle for his place and was confident, but he soon realised he was fighting a losing battle.

So far this season, Ramsdale has made five appearances in the Premier League, one in the UEFA Champions League, two in the Carabao Cup, and one in the FA Cup for Arsenal, who have been backed to sign winger Pedro Neto from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer transfer window.

No,  sources with knowledge of the situation have confirmed to HITC that Ramsdale, described as “phenomenal” by former Arsenal and England international goalkeeper David Seaman, will look to move this summer.

Newcastle United eye Aaron Ramsdale

HITC understands that Ramsdale’s representatives are already aware of potential interest in him. There are teams on the continent who are keen, but there is interest in him from the Premier League as well.

Newcastle United are a potential destination for Ramsdale. The Magpies are considering a number one between the posts for next season.

Eddie Howe’s have Nick Pope and Martin Dubravka, who is currently standing in as number one due to the shoulder injury suffered by the former Burnley man in December. But they are keeping close tabs on Ramsdale’s situation.
