Peter Schmeichel has shared an exchange he had with Rasmus Hojlund hours before Manchester United’s 2-1 win at Luton Town on Sunday.
The legendary goalkeeper has played at Kenilworth Road once in his career, during the 1991/92 season, when then-Sir Alex Ferguson’s side dropped points in the title race.
It wasn’t a pleasant experience for the five-time Premier League title winner and he made sure to put that forward to Rasmus Hojlund before his game yesterday.
An old school and tightly concealed ground like the fans are on top of you, Peter Schmeichel stated that he texted Manchester United’s new hero ‘It’s a different stadium, enjoy it and don’t forget to score’.
A number of months ago, the 21-year-old wouldn’t have responded with such confidence, but he told his fellow countryman ‘I am going to do both’, as he told Premier League Productions (18/02/24 at 5:25 pm).
And true to his word, he did just that, and in style, as the in-form Manchester United star netted a brace inside seven minutes, which in the end, proved to be the difference for his Champions League-chasing team.
That’s why Peter Schmeichel was delighted for him, as he also spoke about his second goal, which came off his chest after a scuffed volley from Alejandro Garnacho and whether or not he meant it.
Rasmus Hojlund scores again for Manchester United
“I texted him earlier today saying ‘look forward to today, it’s different, this stadium is different. Enjoy it and don’t forget to score’,” said Schmeichel.
“Then he comes back saying ‘I am going to do both’
On Hojlund’s second goal: “We can argue a lot about this. Does he mean that, or does he not mean it? Is he trying to get out of the way? I would give him the benefit of the doubt. It actually looks like he is playing it in.”

Nobody can stop Rasmus Hojlund
It wasn’t so long ago that Manchester United’s big summer signing, despite his tender age, was being mocked left, right and centre by rival fans.
Yet fast forward to the present and many will be fearing coming up against his talents now because he is proving to be very hard to stop.
Hojlund has now scored in six consecutive Premier League games and you wouldn’t bet against him adding to that tally against Fulham at Old Trafford.
And in the form Hojlund is in, there is every chance Champions League football could be maintained by Erik ten Hag because they are now five points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa.
