Tottenham Hotspur were dealt a major blow on Saturday when Wolves rocked up to the capital and ran away with all three points.

The joy and mood change Ange Postecoglou has brought to Hotspur Way has been eye-catching and entertaining for the fans.

But those many pluses Tottenham fans have had to deal with have also come with negative points and that was showcased over the weekend.

Glenn Hoddle expressed his worry involving Guglielmo Vicario and how he is having to make ‘four or five worldie saves every game’, as he told Premier League Productions (17/02/24 at 8:35 pm).

Yes, Spurs dominated possession against Wolves, but every time Gary O’Neil’s side broke, it looked like they were going to score and they will feel they should have scored more during the game.

Just like against Brighton last time out, Guglielmo Vicario was once again pulling off top save after top save to, either keep his team in the match or ensure they aren’t blown away.

It needs to be noted that key fullback duo Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie were missing on Saturday, so that took the spark out of the team’s attack.

And when you do that, then it does further expose the defensive frailties, which raised doubts in the mind of their club legend.

Guglielmo Vicario’s saves for Tottenham

“I love the way they play going forward,” said Hoddle. “I think Ange has been brilliant in the way that he sets the fullbacks going in, which they missed against Wolves because Udogie and Porro didn’t play, so going forward, I love it.

“But defensively, I have always been worried this season. The goalkeeper, Vicario, he is having to make worldies, probably four or five every game.

“I think if they work deeper, then I think they will solve the problem. They have got pace at the back, but my word, watching Spurs week in and week out, it’s something that’s easy to play against. You get in behind them so easy and consequently they got beat against Wolves.”

Guglielmo Vicario an upgrade on Hugo Lloris

This time last season, Spurs’ long-serving goalkeeper was going through hell in between the sticks, as it was pretty clear his time was up as number one.

Given that there wasn’t an obvious player to replace him at that time, he ended up keeping his place for far too many games.

But when Spurs made the call to bring Vicario into the building in the summer, it was a bold move by the team and one that simply had to work.

And with many praising the impacts the likes of James Maddison and Micky van de Ven have made this term, you have to put Vicario in that bracket also because he has been outstanding.
