EXCLUSIVE from Graeme Bailey

Crystal Palace are on the verge of appointing Oliver Glasner as their new manager ahead of Monday’s battle with Everton at Goodison Park.

HITC understands that Oliver Glasner has now agreed terms with Crystal Palace to take charge of the Eagles.

Palace finalised the deal for ex-Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt boss Glasner after current boss Roy Hodgson was hospitalised on Thursday.

Palace have confirmed that Hodgson is stable and undergoing tests in hospital after being taken ill.

Palace had already taken the decision to replace Hodgson before this development and co-owner John Textor has played a major role in pushing for Glasner to come in – as we previously stated.

HITC understands that the Glasner deal will be announced ahead of Monday’s clash with Everton.

Who is Oliver Glasner?

Glasner was a defender in his playing days and became a hero for Austrian side SV Ried, racking up more than 500 appearances.

It was no great surprise then when Glasner ended up managing SV Ried in 2014, but that only came after serving as Roger Schmidt’s assistant manager at Red Bull Salzburg.

Glasner’s emotional return lasted just one year as he became LASK boss, guiding them into the Europa League and even the Champions League qualifiers.

Wolfsburg paid close attention to Glasner’s work and lured him to Germany in 2019, where he won 47% of his games before leaving in 2021 amid disagreements with sporting director Jorg Schmadtke.

Wolfsburg had to watch on as Glasner immediately joined a Bundesliga rival in Eintracht Frankfurt, where he won the Europa League in his first season in charge.

Glasner beat Barcelona on the way to the final and dazzled Xavi with his pressing approach before then beating Rangers in the final on penalties.

Last season was a little trickier for Glasner but he still managed a seventh-place finish before deciding to leave the club last summer.

Glasner certainly impressed in Germany and Palace fans will be excited by his arrival whilst still having Hodgson’s well-being on their minds.

The Austrian has earned Premier League interest in the past and was on Tottenham’s radar as a replacement for Antonio Conte.

The job ended up going to Ange Postecoglou, but it’s clear that Glasner has caught the eye with his work in the Bundesliga.

Tottenham chose to go in another direction and Palace are now ready to benefit by bringing Glasner to London after all.

Palace head to face Tottenham on March 2nd, giving Glasner a swift chance to show Spurs what they are missing.
