Leeds United put out their biggest statement yet when they smashed Swansea City 4-0 on Tuesday night to further boost their chances of earning automatic promotion to the Premier League.
Whilst Daniel Farke was watching his team run away with it in South Wales, their promotion rivals Southampton were suffering their first loss since September against Bristol City.
Even before a ball was kicked in both games, former QPR boss Gareth Ainsworth was backing Leeds United to win the race for second place and he thinks Crysencio Summerville is the reason why, as he told Soccer Special on Sky Sports (13/02/24 at 7:25 pm).
The 22-year-old scored and assisted against Swansea on Tuesday night, as he took his tally to 15 goals and eight assists from his 29 Championship matches.
It could have been very different for the Dutch star because there was transfer interest in him last summer and in January, but he stayed put.
Leeds’ ability to keep hold of him might just prove to be the reason why they make an instant return to England’s top flight.
And if that happens, then Gareth Ainsworth thinks Crysencio Summerville is the one everyone will be pointing towards.
Leeds United’s promotion chances
“A couple of guys fancy Southampton with the run they have been on,” said Ainsworth. “I think Leeds are such a good side. I do think they are such a good side.
“If they can keep Summerville in the form he is on, then he is this player that teams have had in the past where you say ‘that play got them promoted. That player was the one’. Summerville has done that.
“I will put my neck on the line and say Leeds will just pip it.”

Crysencio Summerville’s rise at Leeds
The Championship has proven to be a hotbed for young talent to showcase their worth and then go onto the Premier League stage and elevate that even further.
Someone like Summerville is falling into that category because the £15k-a-week star is destined and ready for the Premier League.
Of course, the Yorkshire side simply don’t want to mess up this one because if they do, then someone like Summerville will end up in the Premier League next season, even if they don’t.
A lot was expected of him when he first joined Leeds as a teenager from Feyenoord and now those talents are bearing fruit.
