Athletic Bilbao ace Alex Berenguer is attracting interest from English clubs with Leicester City and Wolverhampton among those interested.

HITC Football understands that Brentford, Crystal Palace, Leicester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers are all interested in Athletic Club ace Alex Berenguer.

The 28-year-old is out-of-contract in the summer and a host of clubs are looking at the versatile winger, who can play in a host of positions.

Winger, wing back, attacking midfielder, striker; Berenguer has played all over the pitch in his career.

The former Torino star also has interest from clubs in Serie A, as well as teams in Germany and France.

However, it is understood that Berenguer is open to the prospect of moving to the Premier League with interest now mounting.

Who is Alex Berenguer?

Berenguer hails from Pamplona in Spain and came up in the ranks of hometown club Osasuna.

After showing promise in the Osasuna B team, Berenguer became a first-team regular with five goals and 12 assists in 84 appearances.

Torino came calling in 2017 and struck an intriguing deal worth up to €7million (£5million).

€1.5million of that deal was a clause payable to Osasuna if Torino ended up selling Berenguer to Osasuna’s rivals Athletic Club.

Athletic can only sign Basque players, so Osasuna seemingly feared that he would end up joining their rivals down the line.

Berenguer impressed in Italy with 10 goals and 12 assists in 97 games before heading back to Spanish football in 2020 with – you guessed it – Athletic Club.

Athletic paid up to €12million (£10million) to sign Berenguer and Osasuna received their €1.5million as a result.

Berenguer has been vital for Athletic, racking up 25 goals and 18 assists in 153 appearances but he may now move on with his contract coming to an end.

An experienced and versatile performer, Berenguer could be a bargain for Brentford, Palace, Leicester and Wolves interested.
