Chelsea left back Ian Maatsen is keen to join Borussia Dortmund permanently with a summer move now in the pipeline.

HITC Football understands Borussia Dortmund are keen to open talks with Chelsea over a deal for loan star Ian Maatsen.

The Dutch left-back has been in excellent form since joining Edin Terzic’s side in the January transfer window.

Dortmund were unable to agree a permanent option with Chelsea at the time, but they took him with the belief they would seal a long-term deal.

Now, after five appearances including two assists and four clean-sheets, HITC Football understands that Dortmund have already made it clear they want to keep Maatsen permanently.

HITC understands that Maatsen is loving life in Germany and is keen to seal a deal, and Dortmund would ideally like an agreement in place before the summer and prevent any rivals from making a move.

How has Chelsea talent Ian Maatsen fared for Dortmund?

Maatsen was outstanding for Burnley last season, thriving during a loan spell with the Clarets as he provided outstanding attacking threat up the left flank.

The Dutchman may have been hoping for a chance at Chelsea but it never really arrived, even after an injury to Ben Chilwell.

That paved the way for Maatsen to leave Chelsea on loan and Dortmund were more than happy to sign him alongside Jadon Sancho.

Maatsen has already started five Bundesliga games whilst bagging two assists.

Maatsen set up Dortmund’s third goal in a 3-0 win over Freiburg on Saturday, whipping in a superb cross for Niclas Fullkrug to score.

The 21-year-old has been so good that he has already won the Bundesliga ‘Rookie of the Month’ award for January having made a big impact.

It’s no wonder that Dortmund and Maatsen want to prolong this spell together and with Chelsea no doubt considering selling players this summer, a deal could be suitable for all parties.
