Sources have told HITC that Chelsea are not looking to replace Mauricio Pochettino before their League Cup final clash with Liverpool.

Chelsea face their Premier League rivals at Wembley on February 25th and Mauricio Pochettino will be given the chance to win his first piece of silverware and that could very well go a long way to him keeping his job.

Pochettino only took charge of The Blues last summer and whilst there were few expectations for Chelsea to become title contenders – the club’s performance this season is concerning to the club’s hierarchy.

HITC have been told that the club’s co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali have discussed the club’s current form – which is far from inspiring, despite their qualification for a cup final.

Improvement

Eghbali, particularly, is pushing for improvement and it is understood that the club’s footballing hierarchy are considering that action may have to be taken this season but their current plan is to assess the situation in the summer – when Pochettino will have just 12-months left on his contract.

However, sources have confirmed to HITC that despite Chelsea’s top brass not having the appetite to make a change they will if they are forced into it and results like Sunday’s calamitous 4-2 loss at home too Wolves did not go down well.

Indeed, it even prompted Thiago Silva’s partner to take to social media to push for Pochettinho to be sacked.

Apology

Pochettino himself felt the need to say sorry for Sunday’s loss, and he told Sky Sports: “I apologise to the fans and thanks to those who stayed and supported the team until the end. We are sorry and so disappointed.

“Of course, I think we can change [the situation], we started to play with a nervousness, made rash decisions. We need to reset and be ready for the FA Cup [fourth round replay] on Wednesday against Aston Villa. Of course the disappointment is massive.

“We cannot go down, it is a tough moment, but it is a moment to be together and find solutions and try to help the team with our decisions.

“It is normal that we are not matching the history of the club. It is a different project and it is always a matter of time but it is difficult for me to always ask for time, time, time and it’s normal that the patience is not infinite.

“We need to show more and the circumstances are difficult.”
