Manchester United and Newcastle United scouted Atalanta duo Giorgio Scalvini and Ederson this past weekend, HITC understands.

Sources have told HITC that Manchester United and Newcastle United watched Giorgio Scalvini and Ederson in action for Atalanta against Lazio in Serie A on Sunday.

Manchester United and Newcastle United scouting Ederson

Atalanta beat Lazio 3-1 at the Gewiss Stadium to enhance their chances of finishing in the UEFA Champions League places in the Serie A table this season. The club from Bergamo are fourth now.

Giorgio Scalvini started the match for Atalanta on the right of a three-man defence in a 3-4-1-2 formation. Ederson played in central midfield alongside Marten de Roon.

HITC understands that Newcastle have been keeping close tabs on Ederson all season and watched him in action this past Sunday.

Brighton and Hove Albion also scouted the Brazilian midfielder, and so did Manchester United. The Red Devils were checking on Atalanta and Italy international central defender Scalvini as well during the match.

Sources have told HITC that German club Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig were in attendance at the match too.

Ederson is rated very highly

Ederson is one of the best midfielders in Serie A, and I am not surprised at all that the likes of Manchester United and Newcastle United are keeping close tabs on him.

Arsenal have been linked with the Brazilian, who is reportedly on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur as well.

Ederson is only 24 now and can still develop and improve. He plays as a centre midfielder and is able to score goals and drive the team forward.

The Brazilian has made 21 starts and one substitute appearance in Serie A for Atalanta so far this season. He has scored five goals and given one assist in those games.

Ederson has also scored one goal in four starts and one substitute appearance in the UEFA Europa League this campaign,

Well-known and well-respected South American football expert Tim Vickery rates Ederson highly.

In January 2024, Vickery told Sky Sports News, as transcribed by TBR: “24 years old, strong, well-built central midfielder. Strong on the ball, versatile, box-to-box. Strong personality as well. The first time I remember him was his professional debut really.”
